Arrived at West Wall just after sunup this AM. A fairly breezy North to NE wind made it tough for this right-hander to make decent casts, so I stuck with spinning.
I finally broke the ice there on funny fish this season with a 3-4 lb albie caught on a 3/4 oz white Spro jig. I say funny because it felt like an old tire coming in with hardly the drag-burning runs I normally get with FA. In fact, I thought I'd foul-hooked it or caught a big fluke that refused to come up. But sure enough, it was a legally hooked albie just acting "funny" ;);
Also saw a 4-5 lb bone and another tunoid caught by flyfishermen, but that was it for the morning there. All action was on the outside and very few pods were breaking. Blind casting was the rule.
Tried various Narragansett shore spots. Nothing but vast quantities of snapper blues. Also tried Sakonnet Pt jetty in afternoon. Again, nothing but hordes of snapper blues and loads of scup. Kids were having a field day on those two species...
