Anybody want to comment on the earliest sightings of either YFT or the white marlins? Do they arrive by early July or is it closer to the end of July?

I looked back through my BGF annuals, and it seems that May's OK for blue sharks, June for blue sharks and makos, and people score YFT in 65 deg water, wherever it shows up, usually by mid-June down by the canyons. Also, early-season BFT bite has happened on occasional years as early as mid-June at Hudson's canyon. The hint I get from these records is that it makes sense to troll for YFT and albacore at the first 65 degree temp. breaks. Before that it's sharks, with a hope for makos. Blue sharks seem to be around as early as people seem to want to go out for them. can't figure out early-season shelf BFT strategy from these summaries.
Interesting, but there's no mention of early marlin on BGF - '88-94.

What is the acronym BGF? Sounds like interesting reading. Anything there on mahi? How warm does it have to get the Mahi to show up?

BGF stands for the Big Game Fishing journal. If you don't get it, log on www.bgf-journal.com and subscribe. GET ALL THE BACK ISSUES YOU CAN. It is by far the best reference for offshore fishing in the northeast.
P.S. Note my blatent advertising for a competing website! :-)

Josko,
Larry beat your post by two minutes..... I hope you don't give him that kind of lead time when the fish are on the surface.....
Thanks for the info guys. Yeah Larry..... I got it bad, esp. when it's 9 degrees outside.
