They're here. Thing is, so is the seaweed. Thick as oatmeal and very purple. It extends as far as casting range, but just beyond that is where the fish are. They must use the seaweed as a wall or something to trap the bait against. It sure as heck holds them there. I tried numerous spots along the Sakonnett River yesterday from Third Beach up to Sandy Point. Birds were working all the way but way, way out. If you can fish the rocky inlets along the river you'll find fish. There's plenty of bait.
In the corner of Second Beach this morning big schools of bass trapped bait right on the shore in about 1-foot of water for about 45 minutes. It was right in the corner of Sachuetts and up along the point. I could be mistaken, but I'm sure I saw a small pod of funny fish break the surface, I know it wasn't stripers or blues. They emerged like little submarines, and then were gone.

Go figure. Should make for an interesting day.

Michael

What about the night fishing? It is much easier for me to fish Newport at night (I live in Boston).

I fished Brenton Point a few weeks ago with some success. Are the fish on the beaches at night too?

Thanks

Ray

Hi Ray,

I don't know about the night time. Like anything else, I'm sure it's hit or miss. I spoke with one of the ususals down here yesterday morning. He pulled an all nighter and got nothing but Skates and Sand Sharks with chunks and live eels. I ususally hit the beach in the early morning and at late afternoon. If the fish are in, I'ld have to think the night fishing out along the drive and the other good spots are producing. Put a call into the Salt Water Edge to see what they ahve been hearing.

Good Luck!
