They're here. Thing is, so is the seaweed. Thick as oatmeal and very purple. It extends as far as casting range, but just beyond that is where the fish are. They must use the seaweed as a wall or something to trap the bait against. It sure as heck holds them there. I tried numerous spots along the Sakonnett River yesterday from Third Beach up to Sandy Point. Birds were working all the way but way, way out. If you can fish the rocky inlets along the river you'll find fish. There's plenty of bait.
In the corner of Second Beach this morning big schools of bass trapped bait right on the shore in about 1-foot of water for about 45 minutes. It was right in the corner of Sachuetts and up along the point. I could be mistaken, but I'm sure I saw a small pod of funny fish break the surface, I know it wasn't stripers or blues. They emerged like little submarines, and then were gone.
Go figure. Should make for an interesting day.
