Environmental laws have been circumvented. This is a travesty. Once again the Corps has taken it upon themselves to dictate policies regarding OUR resources. Everyone that logs onto R-T should take the time to at least sign the online petition

What would YOU do with this mud? I think these folks are actually trying to clean up the coastal environment, and find the site referred to short on alternate solutions. Instead of just bitching about them trying to do something, perhaps we should think of alternate, cost-effective approaches for dealing with the problem, and how to fund them. What's a better way of dealing with this stuff? Leaving is as-is, dry-land landfills, incineration (whatever that means)?

And the petition on line actually suggests alternative solutions (maybe not a lot granted). The water this past summer and fall have been increadably clear at SH. (unfortunately can't say that about the beaches) You gotta wonder what a couple of tons of semi-toxic mud is gonna do? Sediment rates, effects on the bottom substrate with respect to habitat ect. over time. Bottom line NYC never gives a rat a what it does with its sludge/mud/garbage, THEY don't know what the impact will be from the above said dumping. By the way, did you hear about the "acident"?

I WOULD NOT SIGN THAT WORTHLESS PETITION IF YOU PAYED ME! DREDGING IS A VITAL PART OF KEEPING OUR WATERWAYS OPEN TO BOTH COMMERCIAL AND RECREATIONAL VESSELS. BOTTOM LINE IF SHIPS CAN NOT GET INTO HARBORS BECAUSE THEY ARE SILTED IN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL PAY A GREATER PRICE THAN ANY PERCIEVED RISK THAT SOME ENVIRONMENTAL NUTCASE PREACHING DOOM AND GLOOM CAN DREAM UP. THE SKY IS NOT FALLING CHICKEN LITTLE!!!!
