I am moving to Ft. Lauderdale next spring, but was wonder what you thought about my little boat. I have a 12'jon boat with a gas and an electric motor. Should i bring it down with me, I would like to get into some flats fishing. Would it work, or is it too small?

the only flats that would be accessable in your boat, would either be in the keys,or on the west coast.the flats in biscayne bay are a couple of miles from shore.

YES....... I have been asked thousands of times..."What kind of boat should I buy?" I have always said that for general florida fishing....Backwater, Freshwater, bay (calm weather), Limmited flats fishing and so on, a good old Jon Boat is the PERFECT choice. Now, if you expect to keep up with the guides, fish anywhere anytime, the you are delusional. BUT, if you just want to keep a boat around to fish almost anywhere then bring the Jon Boat. You will be able to use it in the canals lakes backcountry and on some flats, on Biscayne Bay during fine weather and in the keys,(A 1 hour drive).

Thanks for your info! I am heading down to Ft. Lauderdale to do some apartment/house hunting. Any suggestions on a place to cast a flyrod? I will be on foot.

Thanks

I'll be in Lauderdale for a week in Jan. I would be grateful for any info you could give me on light tackle charters (fly fishing) for that time of the year.

Good luck finding a place, Dave
