Hello fellas,
I've been tying trout flies for over 30 yrs and tying SW flies for 1 year. I have a Griffen Odessey vise and want to move up. Its either going to be the Dyna-King Professional or the Dyna-King Barracuda.....I know its all a matter of choice and I'm only an amateur, but I would like to see what others choices would be between these two and more important...WHY!!! Thanks so much, Wally

Wally, I've been tying flies for about 15 years ten of which I have also commercially tied for local shops.I probably average around 200 dozen flies a year give or take 50dz. or so.I've owned a few vises and have tied on many friends vises and my favorite is the REGAL for a few reasons.First and formost is durability, this vise is TOUGH AS NAILS!!! it can even hold a nail,ha ha ha. Second is it's price I believe it's dependable service and has saved me money over the last 7 years, I've never had a problem with it and its just as strong as the day I got it.Third is it's simple design. I know the "fancy gagets" and "sharp looks" catch your eye in the mags. and at the shows but the bottom line is how well it holds a hook and that's all that really matters, believe me.It's simple design does the job extreamly well,it will rotate 360 degrees, tilt from horizontil all the way up to virticle and it's heavy base wont tip over due to heavy thread tension as is often nessessary on saltwater flys.Third is value, many of the high end vises are expensive to start with and if you want to change jaws or want to add on an attachment the extra costs can be as much as a mid-priced vise. the Regal with all three heads {midge, standerd, salt}still only cost about as much as you may spend on a higher end vise with no extras. So my advice to you is to consider the REGAL vise the "BULLDOG" of vises in your search. Good luck and Tight Wraps,Bill Murf.
