View Full Version : Cape lookout
Just returned from annual 2 day outing at Cape. Weather was great and albies cooperated biting on flies from 3" to 1/2" lgs. Patterns were Clousers and Deceivers, colors varied from brown to all smoke and olive over white. Largest fish caught were in teen range, but many weighed 8 to 10 pounds. Early morn seemed to affect bite best but on Friday, schools were on the surface quite often balling bait thruout the day . Also, at certain times, flourocarbon tippets seem necessary. Chumming was Not a requirement.

Cape Lookout Albie run doing well this year. Talk among the guys is its the best in last 4 or 5 years. They say double digits for those in guided boats. Definitely greater number of guided boats have hookups at any given time. There is something they know that we don't know.
Used different flies. Color didn't seem to matter much. Oversize seemed to be the key. Forage in the area was large and reddish in color. Those folks moving away from the chartreuse over white did well. All white very successful. Gray, pink , brown, reddish brown, material was used more than prior years. Many folks thought size of fly was biggest factor.
Very little chumming going on. Lots of fish starting around 8am. Scatter into smaller pods this year. Many would appear for only a short time. Had to get there and get the cast off quickly...
