Ambergris Caye, Belize

Our family will be in Ambergris for 2 weeks in April. I am looking for bone and tarpon on the fly info. Any info on self-guided fishing such as location of flats you can access from shore would be much appreciated

we stayed at Placentia on Ambergris last June and never saw the wind under 15 knots. The food was great, the lodge & guides were excellent, but the fishing was marginal. We caught a few bones, but didn't even see any Tarpon. You need a guide to get to the flats on Ambergris. We had a shot at one Permit way at the south end of Belieze, and saw rolling Tarpon two mornings, but no luck. That's why they call it fishing & not catching.
