I'll be in T&C in mid Jan. I have lined up a guide through Silver Deep. It's my understanding that you must get away from the main island for very good fishing. Has anyone experienced guides and or flyfishing in T&C ?? Any specifics ??

I fished with Arthur Dean, owner of Silver Deep, this past summer for a few days. He is very knowledgable when it comes to bonefish and where they are. I would HIGHLY recommend making sure that he guides you in North Caicos. Thats a national marine sanctuary with hundreds of acres of backwater virtually undisturbed. On two of the day I fished with him we didn't see a single other person or boat.

I fished with silver deep on four different 1/2 day trips and didn't catch anything either time. One time, the boat I was on wouldn't startup while we were out, and we just drifted in the carribean until we finally cut the anchor line and used it to manually start the motor, the communications back to the mainland seemed not to be working that day. If I went out with them again I would insist on going out with arthur, not one of his other guides. When I go now, I rent a car for the week, about $250 and look for flats on my own. I have a great time exploring and catch more fish. Good luck, ron

i fished with arthur and one of his guides a few days in september of 1998. from provo, the best flats are 45min or more away. unless things have changed a lot, he fishes from modified (and beat up) 15' carolina skiffs, and the ride can be real tough. almost all the flats are too soft to wade. we did catch several 2-4lb fish - all on the usual suspects (#4&6 gotchas, pink puffs, pregnant shrimps, etc.. also, it can be real windy in january so bring a 9wt too.

Can you point me towards some of the flats. I would like to use a guide for the first day, and then fish by myself for the rest of the week.
