The message couldn't have been clearer. Ceiling fans rotating at speed and carbon rods just don't get on - the ceiling fan generally comes out on top.

Down at P&P Exuma a couple of years ago we'd not long arrived and in our impatience to get out fishing our mate Norm decides to tackle up in the room - you guessed it..

I was sitting outside with Clive (who's long on East London humor) and Kevin - sipping a beer and getting our gear ready.

Clive shouts out " eer Norm, mind you don't stick your rod in the ceiling fan..". It must have been about 30 seconds latter when out from the french windows came that distinctive "..clatta clatta clatta craaaack ..." the ensuing silence was deafening. Just to rub salt in the wound Clive shouts again "..eer Norm, mind you dont stick your rod in the ceiling fan"

There must be something about the P&P. Last winter I was down there for the Bonefish school. Our casting instructor was Steve Rajeff, who had pulled out a brand new rod to show us the physics of casting. Yeah you guessed it, he promptly raised the rod up above his head and carefully snapped off 8" of graphite and wound the line into the fan because we couldn't stop it in time. That's also where I learned a field repair for broken tips....
