My son had just "graduated" from a Zebco thumb reel ( you know the one I am talking about?) to his first real spinning outfit, we were fishing off a bridge picking up schoolie striper when my son, in the heat of the moment, mightily cast his lure.... his rod... and his reel... right over the side of the bridge. He looked at me with an expression of rage, embarresment, and bewilderment. Bieng the kind father I am I could only laugh my butt off and assure him that his new spinning outfit would be replaced the next day... as long as he promised not to throw it into the river! About a year fter the bridge incident I was out on a light tackle charter, throwing poppers to bass chasing bait fish right out of the water, when I slipped on the deck and, to my amazment watched the capt.'s spinning rod and reel fly right out of my hand and over the gunwale... the rod seemed to float there along side the boat for a nono-second before sinking. Luckily the Capt. was able to fish out the outfit with a little luck and a large weighted treble hook. And finaly my favorite story... and I was not present for this mishap. My brother and his buddy were chasing breaking blue fish in the bay, now my brother does not have any qualms about spending money on fishing gear, and had just, and I mean just, purchased a top of the line Daiwa bait casting outfit. this is the same out fit he momentarily set down on the deck, drag full on, line in the water... well you know the rest of the story... hello big blue good bye fishing rod, right over the side of the boat! Never to be recovered... his buddy busted his chops without mercy... and did the same exact thing a week later with one of his own outfits! Amused, have a similar story... share please cabin fever is killing me!
