Thinkning about buying a boat with a 97 115 johnson FICHT. I remember something about a boat blowing up near the vineyard.? I've heard mixed opinioons on these motors. I understand 97 to be the first production year. Am I setting myself up for big headaches. Any experience with this particular motor greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I read somewhere that there are problems with the FICHT. I was not in the market so I didn't take notice of the source, but I remember it as being reputable. I believe it was injector fouling problems

The FICHT have had some problems. I have a 99 Ficht 150 on a 21' Seaswhirl which got recalled. They changed the power heads. There were a lot of articles on reel-time in the past on these engines so you may want to do a search(although I tried and it was very confusing).
OMC Motors is now in bankruptcy. Warranty/parts ?????????

Thanks for the input all. I think I'm going to forego the headaches and pass on the boat. It's a shame too. I've been looking for an(the right)18-20ft center console for about 6 mos. I finally find THE boat at a somewhat reasonable price and then this OMC/FICHT thing. The worst part is; the boat is normally rigged with Yamaha power, my preference. So, the search continues. Anyone selling a nice 18 - 20 ft. Center Console with Excellent running Yamaha, Suzuki power 130hp -150hp for a reasonable deal. I'm interested!!!
