I know we've been through all this before but I can't access the achives. I have a 20' CC and I want an antenna that I can mount on the top grab rail above my console. I would like it to be easily removable or at least collapsable (for towing). I don't use my radio much but want it for safety. I venture as far as the Hooter and Nantucket. I'm looking at a 3.5' removable whip made by Shakespeare. Any experience with this or suggestions on others. Thanks, Dave.

Shakespeare makes several 3.5 foot models. I don't remember the model #, but I think it was listed as the "Bass-Boat" from West Marine. Fantastic performance. Don't think an 8' er would beat this one by much.

I've used the 3.5ft Shakespeare around Boston for the last couple years. Range is a little limited depending upon obstructions, of which there are many in Boston harbor. I'd say it's ideal for inshore situations but it sounds like you venture further.
Also, when screwing the antenna's base into the nylon rail- mount be careful not to twist the antenna wire too much. I think I damaged the wire to whip connection when I attached the two. - George
