Tom Ohaus Alaskan Salt Water Guide, Guest Speaker
Tom a freelance writer and columnist has shared his expertise in well over 300 published articles on fishing, fisheries management issues, boats, and fish. TOM runs a salt water guide service/lodge in Sitka, Alaska. Tom and his family now reside in South Dartmouth, MA in the off season. Tom was the fishing columnist for Offshore Magazine from 1981-1991, for Sea Magazine from 1992-2000, and the Northwest Regional Editor to Salt Water Sportsman from 1994 until I moved back to Massachusetts this fall. he speaking at sportsman's shows and boat shows in the Northwest. I'm a graduate of the College of Fisheries at the University of Washington.
Since 1987 Tom Ohaus has been owner of Angling Unlimited, a charter fishing business. Angling Unlimited originally consisted of a single boat and Tom, the captain. Tom operated out of Neah Bay and Puget Sound through 1992. He relocated to Sitka after regulations made it impossible to make a living in Washington. Angling Unlimited now owns four boats and employs four other skippers, providing three, four and five day fishing vacations in Sitka.
Tom was educated as a fisheries biologist at the College of Fisheries at the University of Washington. He served on the Groundfish Advisory Panel of the Pacific Fishery Management Council, is the former president of the Sitka Charter Boat Operators Association, and sits on the boards of the Alaska Sportfish Council and Long Live the Kings, a non-profit corporation working to restore salmon in the Northwest.
