FISHING IN JAMAICA for several weeks i have attempted, thry local tackle shops, talking to everyone, snd searching the web, have found, nat even fish tales of jamaica. i have managed a phone convesation with mary who has been to the same grass hut we have rented for our two week stay. 900 hundred, 5feet from the water.
this town as a small very very rural community, with fishing being a significant contribution to there food supply. no boats for rent, no charter boats avaiable, buteveryone has a wooden boat. that by description sounds like a canoe in size and shape, with stern built to accept a small gasoline engine.
th primary line 100 lb. testline, with local catches as bait. the saying is catch the small ones in order to catch the big ones. the big ones are kingfish, redfish, tarpon, wahoo, and garfish. no mention of bonefish or sunfish, which i think may be the same.
hooks are sharpened on stone and seem to work. fly rods bring smiles and a fly brings laughter.
whith what i know, i will bring 5 lbs of assorted hooks, 2 lbs. of floresceant worms 100 yds. of 100 lb. test, and hopefully trade to a local fisherman to take me along.
as i go along i am hopeing my collapsable deep sea rod and native bait provide me a fishing trip that may not be a trophy, but certainly relaxing. and maybe catch the big one.

Sams--

Wondering if you found fish down there or not-- I'm headed there in January.
