This is new territory for me. I've always used an albright to make this connection but know there must be different stronger ways to make this connection especially with offshore tackle. With Spectra and the like being the small diameter that it is, Im wondering how you are supposed to go about attaching it to the flyline?...Is there a line that acts as a medium for the transistion from backing to flyline like a piece of 30-50lb mono or?....

Take a look at the latest Big Game Fishing Journal (April). It's got a great article on offshore fly fishing, and a sidebar that discusses line setup, with all the knots from the arbor to the fly. I find the double Bimini they talk about tough to tie, as one loop always ends up a bit shorter than the other one, but I think this is the way to go.

BTW, where do you get the Gudebrod Spectra backing? Pretty confusing website, and I can't find it in my catalogs anywhere.

Josko: It was me who posted about the Gudebrod backing. I met the guy who headed up the fishing division for Gudebrod while at a boat show a few years ago. He gave me a 1,000 yard spool of the stuff which I've managed to deplete over the years. I called to find out if he could send me some more, and they told me he's retired. I will check tonight to see what the name of the stuff is and will post it later. It may have been SST, but I'm not sure.

JEFF,
I MAKE A LOOP AT THE END OF MY FLYLINE BY REMOVING A COUPLE OF FEET OF THE PVC COATING FROM THE END AND THEN SPLICE IT BACK INTO ITSELF. I MAKE THE SPLICE AS LONG AS I CAN AND THEN WHIP FINISH OVER THE END OF THE SPLICE WITH HEAVY THREAD OR TIPPET MATERIAL AND THEN ZAP-A-GAP THE THREAD/TIPPET MATERIAL. I THEN MAKE A LOOP IN THE SPECTRA USING A DOUBLE BIMINI, AND SIMPLY LOOP TO LOOP THEM TOGETHER. I USE THE DOUBLE BIMINI SO THAT THE SPECTRA DOESN'T CUT THE FLY LINE. THIS MAKES IT VERY EASY TO CHANGE FROM ONE LINE TO ANOTHER OR RIG A SHOOTING HEAD SYSTEM. THE CONNECTION HAS PROVEN ITSELF FOR ME ON SOME LARGE BLUE SHARKS(250+lbs), AS WELL AS, SOME LARGE FALSE ALBACORE IN N. CAROLINA. GOOD LUCK!
