View Full Version : Rigging Plastics

Bought some shad bass assassins as was recommended in this forum. Have used other plastics but there was no info on the package how to rig. Using a jig head does the hook come up out the back or down thru the belly. Any help appreciated.

ps still lots of seals at the mouth of the merrimac.

The hook should protrude through the top side. I've found the 5 inch size works well with 1/2 oz. jigs and the 7 inch with a 3/4 oz. jig. I'd also recommend trying Owner jig heads. They cost more but hold the plastics much better than the garden variety jig heads.

Kalin Ultimate jigs are good too. Very sharp hooks and nice wide gap, just like Owner. However, the small sizes are hard to find and I'm not revealing my very limited source of them!

Better yet, go to www.nettersinc.com and get some 1/2 oz headed Lances (6 inch). They come pre-rigged with a "tufcore" strenghtening device which keeps the bait from being ripped off the head. They are custom soft-plastics that are similarly priced as the other brands and always seen to outperform them. They are a Striper killer, trust me.
