I have heard (read) that the Bass have made it as far north as Croton. Anyone seen anything as far north as Kingston/Hudson area? In years past I have caught fish in the river and in creek mouths entering the Hudson, although I have never caught them on flies there.
Any advice for fly/baitcasting for them in the Hudson?

Catskill Creek has given up only two bass this week. Water temp. 46 degrees. The two bass were 38" and 38.5". Both females with eggs. Both caught on herring. Shad drift netters are catching and releasing male bass when they pull in their drift nets. Lots of shad in teh Catskill, NY area.
Herring runs in all local creeks.

Water temp. has to move up to 50 degrees and higher to trigger a striper feeding binge. Under 50 degrees the fish tend to be sluggish and their metabolism almost in netural. Low 50 degree + temps will begin the feeding frenzy and 56 degrees and higher will trigger spawning activity.

First week of May has been the begining of prime time striper action in the river. Talk to me on Tuesday. May 1.

thanks for the information. i am going to give it a shot this weekend, if the bass aren't active I will give the herring a try.
Unfortunately (or possibly fortunatley) I am getting married next Saturday, so fishing will be out for the 1st 3 weeks of May-you can see why I am trying to get out now.

I'll post you monday if anything happens. thanks again
