Fished some flats just north of the inlet on Saturday and this morning. Picked up a 16" and 26" sea trout on a bass assasin. Caught two redfish out of a school of at least 50. One was 16" and another at 26". Very frustrating fishing as I spent well over an hour pitching flies right in front of their noses without a hit. The reds hit Johnson weedless silver minnows.

Dave, keep the reports coming. Although it seems like it's taking forever, my trip to FL is almost here. I'll be down in the Ft. Pierce area next week. Did you use your boat for this flats fishing or is it wadable? Got any suggestions as to where I should start out? Thanks, Dave.

Dave,
Yes, I used my boat out there. The water temperature is sort of cool (62) which has made the fish a little lethargic and reluctant to hit lures. I wouldn't bother to make the trip up to the Sebastian area because I'm sure that the fishing is just as good down by Fort Pierce. It may even be a little better due to warmer water temps. The only flats that I've been to around Ft. Pierce were at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Don't worry though, there are lots of places to fish down there. Snook have been around and there have been reports of ladyfish and pompano in that area. I wish I could help more, but I'm new to the area and just learning.
Try Johnson silver/gold weedless spoons for reds. Ladyfish have been hitting small chartreuse bucktail jigs with the bucktail only going back just past the bend of the hook.
Good luck and let us know how you do!
Dave

Dave, thanks for the info. I'll post a report when I get back. I've booked a guide for one day so hopefully I'll learn the water a bit. Dave.
