Montauk July 14-15

I have a friend with a boat in Montauk and will be out there this weekend. Is there still any decent fishing around Shelter Island/Gardners or is it done? How is the fishing around the point? Any other suggestions on locations? Blues, stripers, or weaks. I love 'em all. Thanks.

I think we are in a "pick em" time now. Shelter Island is definitely "warmed up" (water temps, that is) and so is the lowest probability shot for this coming weekend. Gardiners and the general area around it still seems to have action, although I get the feeling from the last couple of "Friday roundup" reports that some of the guides have been headed off to Montauk for cooler waters, the bass with them and maybe anticipation of some pelagics.

May change my mind by Saturday, but I think I'll be headed East from 3 mile harbor and, if I don't see stuff around Gardiners, may run out to Montauk again as I did last Saturday.

... or maybe I'll head to the North Shore, as I've always wanted to explore the area.

I'm thinking hit Gardners early. If nothing is going on we'll swing around the point and either chase birds or throw a depth charge just off the surf.
