guys I think I'm going to give boat building a try(this is not about saving but rather just a fun project). I've always admired the Roth built boats. & I'm looking for a plan similiar to that.

Here's what I'm thinking about.

a stable boat.
a Dory type design.
Center console.
Something for cruising around Nausett Inlet & maybe up and down the beach (to find a few bluefish) So I'd like it to handle some Chop.

I was looking at the outboard dory by Bateau
http://www.bateau.com/plans/power/OD16.php3

The boat looks pretty good but do you guys know of a design which maybe a little bit better for handling the chop ...so I don't get hull slap.

Thanks,
Pete

Try hunting up a copy of The Dory Book by J. Gardner ( The grandfather of workboats and master designer). I think you can get one at the wooden boat store ( on line or in mystic) My local library ( Westport , Ma) had a copy. There are offsets for a 16' and 19' Semi dory right in the book. ( Clasic Dory hull with a widened , enclosed transom, motor well and small fordeck. Nice design for rough or sheltered waters.) Construction looks reasonaly simple . In fact, local guy built the 16' last year as a first time project. Goes nice w just 30 hp./ ( Read save ). Just BEAUTIFUL and eye catching.

I have looked at similar boats to build. The best design that I have come across is the Collins Sea Skiff. There is a museum in North Carolina that sells the plans and a shop on Cape Cod is currently producing them. I can't remember the website but I know a search for sea skiff will get you there.
