View Full Version : Blues around the Merrimack?

Are there any particular locations around the mouth of the Merrimack to look for Blues or is the best bet to cruise around looking for birds. I'd love to locate some blues that I can catch with poppers on a fly rod.

This last weekend the blues were just south of the
mouth of the river and all the way down to the Polio
Camp (about 5 miles S.) Fish were deep though and
topwater plugs had little effect. Plugs trolled at 10'-12'
did the trick. Not much birds to show the way either. Try
trolling 'till you locate the fish and then work the area.
Fish were constantly on the move. Good luck!

I usually find them outside the mouth of the river to the south. Sometimes close by, other times further down where lunatic says they were. Got into them good a couple weeks back right past the tip of the south jetty (daybreak). This last weekend I also hoped to follow birds to the fish. Didn't work. From my experience it was pretty dead. Can only tell you where they were not for most of the day Saturday. Not in the mouth, not outside near there, not north to breaking rocks off Seabrook. Although lack of bait out there suggests they might have visited lately.
