I might be in the Yucatan in April, but on a family vacation, so not exclusively for fishing. We will likely be around Merida but possibly Cancun. Is there any fishing in that region? (hiring a guide might not be an option)Thanks in advance.

hi....well i will try to help you a bit with info that is a few years old...ok

merida is far west of cancun but if you are in cancun the best place i found to be is on isla.mujeres which is an island (very quaint) easily reached from puerto.juarez.....once on isla.mujeres go left along the beach after leaving the dock....follow this all the way as far as you can go...casting along the way...small cuda etc....when you get as far as you can walk that should be where the old el.presidente hotel was....there is a huge flat there...with bonefish and ladyfish....problem is i have always been there when it is very windy....april may be better....

in cancun itself there is a big bridge as you leave town going towards the beaches...there is supposed to be tarpon and snook at night....

there is also a light house on a rocky jetty somewhere that way that holds tarpon...

the lagoon (nichupte i think) holds tarpon and snook and bonefish but you need a guide with a boat

good luck and let me know how you do

You need a guide for great tarpon fishing. Very remote but guide will pick you up. $350/boat.

I've seen small permit swimming in the breaking waves on the beach behind the sheraton. There's a scammer that hangs around the dock by the boat to Isla Mujeres. His name is richard and he will offer you a guided fishing trip for around $100. Stay away from him, he's insane.
