I was thinking about heading up to try and find some albies but don't know what it's been like recently. Any news would really be apprecaited.
Thanks,

Fished from Race Rock Light to Plum Gut on Sunday,
plus a side trip out to Montauk Point (and a quick stop
at Liar's Saloon). After the tide started to fall, the albies
were all over the place in the rip from Big Gull to Plum
Island, especially around the rock in the middle. We did
a dozen or so drifts, and I finally managed to get my first
albie on a fly. Nice fight! I thought my 9-wt was going to
snap in half. A few snapper blues were mixed in, but
most of the action was topwater with thousands of
medium sized albies chasing small baitfish. They were
very finicky, and I was only able to get hits on
blue-over-white deceivers on a sinking line. My buddy
had slightly better luck with spoons on his spinning rod,
but it was worth the frustration to hook one on the fly!
I might be heading out again during the week if my wife
will let me take a day off from work.
On a side note, the water all around Big & Little Gull
was FILLED with 1/4" crabs. Billions of the suckers.
Strange that nothing appeared to be feeding on them.
The bass were nowhere to be found.
Slainte...
