I was just reviewing the pattern for Roger's Bigeye Herring, and the pattern calls for the placement of eyeplates for eyes. I've never heard of this term before, but they really dress the fly. Does anyone know where the can be purchased, or are they homemade.

Page rogers told me that they can be purchased through hunters angling supplies. But i have another way to make them and it works fine, plus it has a little advantage. I use the same thing that you would wrap a bob's banger with. Those sheets of flash. i don't know how to further explain it. But the advangage is that is is sticky on the back of the sheet and that if you push them together it creats a spread fly affect for the fly. I found that very helpful when tying bunker patterns. Then all you have to do is put your eyes on the sheet and expoy the threads and your done.

The Bears Den Fly Shoppe in Taunton carries them, but I have been told that they can get bent out to the sid e easily and ruin the effect of the fly. The NJCoastfly response sounds alittle better. As an alternative you might try making a "head" from EZ body without the strings by tying the back of the tube at the base of the bucktail and pushing the forwards section back and tying off. This gives you a place to atach the eyes and you can epoxy over them. rel

I've been making them from a new translucent "rubber" material (I can't think of the name off-hand) with great success. I'll post when I get the name. BTW, the largest striper I've caught on fly to date was on one of these - 42".
