Not sure what anyone else is experiencing, but from what I'm hearing and witnessing, things have been miserable down here in the Newport area. No birds, no bait, and very little action. This time last year was a completely different situation. Hopefully this will change. I know people have been asking for a return of heavier surf and a change in the wind direction. That seems to be happening. But for now, it just a waiting game. Time will tell.
michael- I ran into the same scenario this AM at Sakonnet point and just about everywhere in between. Looks like its time to head for Narragansett again, maybe next Wed.(my next day off). Ron

Ron,
Glad to hear I'm not the only one, sorry for your misfortune though. I'm getting think it's better to get some much needed extra rest. Nothing worse than doing the early morning thing only to get skunked. But then again, I'm not out there all that early. Is it true when they say once the sun comes up to forget it. Is 8:00 AM too late to hit the beach? Ha!
If your in the Gannsett area next week let me know. Right now I'm not sure what my travel plans are, but I'm willing to give that a shot. Things should change back to normal hopefully real soon. I hope so anyway. Have you hit anywhere in the upper bay? Barrington can't be too much of a hike for you. It might be worth a shot.
Yesterday's forecast was incentive enuf for me to take a mental health day from the "plant." My buddy and I ran from Westport up the Sakonnet almost to Stone Bridge where we encountered very spooky 2 lb blues widely scattered (picked up 1) then back to Sakonnet Pt where we caught both resident schoolies (2) and released same. We then proceeded all the way East to Padanaram where we got gas and turned around and ran back to Westport where we had an abortive single chance at some albies near Two Mile Rock (up and then DOWN and GONE!) If it weren't such a beautiful day i would have been disappointed- WHERE B THE FISHIES!
michael- The last time I tried at Barrington(2 wks ago) there were only snappers chasing very small bait and the larger blues weren't even visible with the binocs. They showed for a couple of days then made occasional forays but not long ones into the beach. Most of the time they were trying to avoid the boats out by Ohio Ledge. There might be some small schoolies in there now but parking there can be a B*%$#, if you know what I mean. I heard that Buttermilk Bay still had fish before the blow I don't know if they are still there- I'll probably check with the source over the weekend and post it. Good luck. Ron

Ron,
I swung by The Saltwater Edge today for some fly tying supplies. They told me Narragansett was very active this morning. Black Point and Scarborough Beach were the places to be. Albies, Blues and Stripers all reachable from shore. Needless to say I'm off in the early morning to give it a shot. I'll keep you posted.

I'll vouch for Narragansett this AM. Plenty of birds working over breaking fish, too far out for surfcasting when I was there, but coming closer and closer. With a boat, you would have been golden. Nothing irks me more than watching breaking fish and knowing I have to leave for some meeting in 5 minutes :(.
Hit those Avenues hard over the weekend would be my advice...
