Last weekend I fished on my dad's skiff on the North Shore in Cold Spring Harbor. After catching numerous small schoolies around various shoreline rockpiles, docks and weeds, found a school of large one or two pound bunker (about as big as the schoolies we were catching) that was being worked over by big, bruiser blues. While I did not have a truly humongous fly in my bag, could not get them to hit the biggest deceiver I had. I guess its been my overall experience over the years that when the fish are on that bait, even if its blues, there is no other way to get them other than "blood and guts" fishing (livelining or chunks). Anyone have any comments as to fly techniques, experiences in this type of situation?
