I have a Lamson 3 fly reel. The metal prongs that hold the spool onto the reel have worn away, causing the reel to have no drag. Lamson no longer produces the reel (or spare parts), apparently because so many reels developed the same problem. I hate to throw away a nice reel without trying to somehow solve the problem. Any suggestions?

Have you actually looked into trying to get the reel repaired, or are you going by something someone told you? Waterworks acquired Lamson in 1998. The LP-3 is still in production. From my experience with the company I believe they would satisfy any customer regardless of the particular Lamson product.

You're welcome! If you liked Lamson before you will love them after an experience with their customer service department.

Are you talking about the velocity 3?, and they said they won't do anything about it? That's not good! for future purchases.

Relax, every reel that Lamson has ever manufacturered is covered by a great warranty. There was a period when Lamson was owned by Sage. The reels that Lamson produced while owned by Sage, (the DC line ?), are covered by a Sage warranty. I currently own a LP-2 with a spare spool, and three LP-4's with five spare spools. Every few years I send them to the company for a tune up. I pay for shipping one way only. I also own a Loop reel- warranty has expired, and a Pate. I think Pate asks for some bucks up front to do warranty work.

Am wondering, j, why you would consider "throwing away the reel"? Doesn't Lamson have a lifetime warrantee? I'd suggest sending the reel back to them and let them decide what to do with it. Maybe they might send you a replacement reel or even upgrade to a newer model? I think this would be your next step. Good luck!
I recently had a problem with a Velocity 4. I followed Quicksilver's advice and gave Lamson a call. Pete a Lamson was very nice. He gave me a return authorization number. I sent the reel, they fixed it and it's on this way back. The all process was free of charge. Great customer service and hassle free. :) :) :)
