Hello anglers! I own a 17' Bayliner Trophy Center console (no tunnel) and I am considering putting a jack plate on it. The 5-6" gained does not seem like it will help that much. I have a 3 hp that I could mount on one of those adjustable plates on the back. Seems like it would be OK for motoring about in the flats. ($80 versus $500-$600). Any responses greatly appreciated.
Also, I came across this site for building a flats boat(16' & 18'). The plans seem very complete and construction simple for someone with a little bit of building skill. You can build a very nice C/C skiff for about $1500-$1800. (no motor, of course).
