On 12/26 started the morning as usual on the bar in my charter boat "Poacher"fishing eels and hooked up on our second cast.I noticed a flock of birds to the east and we changed over to trolling gear and hooked 4 on our first pass. We ended the morning trip with a 25 fish morning ,the largest close to 30lbs. The pm trip on 12/26 was a bit different with 25mph out of the North made for hard ,rough and wet fishing. We made the best of it landing 10 rather quickly but the last 2 for a limit were tough, we finally caught them out of a bunch of birds behind the bar, but we earned it taking several waves in the cockpit. This afternoon (12/27) we fished in 50feet of water off south Nags Head, and what a slaughter.Double headers all afternoon, lots of 10lb to 14lb fish, but when you're catching them as fast as the bait hits the water who cares. Finished up the afternoon with close to 50 stripers, most were the small fish ,but we had several close to 30lbs. All of these fish were landed trolling bucktails. The report from up North of us sounds great with schools of stripers stretching all the way to the Va line. For some striper photos go to my website and hit fishing report. O.K., you're having the intended effect. Between the reports coming in here and the article in Flyfising in Salt Waters By Brian Horsely, I'm beginning to feel like a guy offered a corporate credit card in strip club, or at least I'm imagining how that would feel.
At what depth are the fish you're targeting, and do you think they could be had on a fly? I was going to book with Horsely on my way to Florida (from Oregon) but thought better of it when I became half owner of a flats boat in Miami. But I love catching stripers so much that, perhaps next year, I might re-think that.
Anyway, what do you think?

Sure you can get them on the fly when the weather cooperates, around here the weather is half the battle. Today (1/10) I fished in busting fish all morning and when I left they were still rolling with birds all over them. We had stripers to 30lbs today on 15lb spinners. I'm not a fly guide but Brian (Flat Out) will do you a great job. Good Luck, Devin Cage
