View Full Version : Redington LA Reels - No More
I have noticed many people asking questions regarding the Redington LA reels, "should I get one.....?"
A little heads up. If you do, buy all the extra spools you may need NOW. You may have noticed the 50% cost reduction at the recent fly fishing shows. Redington is no longer making this reel and purging the remaining inventory from it's warehouse. This comes from a fly shop owner who sold over 60 pieces at the Marlboro show.
So buy your extra spools now b/c they won't be available in the future.

Ray, do you have any info regarding the "lifetime" warrantees such as: will they continue to service and repair the reels as in the past?
I'm not sure on that one. They may do repair work for. Sometimes when this happens, the company will offer to replace a failed product (or one in need of repair) with the latest product close to it.

Thanks, Ray, for your input. Hoping I won't need a repair till they decide what they're going to service all those reels they sold!

Supposedly, Redington will keep extra spools available for future needs. Also, these reels will be fully warranteed and seviced. This per the rep manning their booth at the Wilmington show. I would have to think, though, at some point in the future (how far in the future is the question) the availability of parts will lessen, and they will start to substitute the newer product as Ray mentioned.

That explains why you could buy them cheap on Ebay for a few months ago!

FYI...Redington is releasing a beauty of a new cork drag LA reel to replace the old AL series this May. Same/similar price point to AL series...much better drag system. I have seen the specs and photos...this one is gonna be a real winner.

:D I just recently went to John B fly shop that is attached to the Redington factory and it was a great decision. I purchased a Redington AL 9/10 that was totally re-conditioned with a LARGER, CORK drag. I watched John do all of the work in front of me. It is a great option and he will stand by his work and the price was terrific. I was a little nervous buying a used reel but after talking to him and seeing it done in person, I felt very confident leaving there. I also learned how to tie a new fly!
