Hi,

I have a Sage RPLXi 990 and I choose the 2 piece version, because it appeared to be more a 9/10 wt than the 3 piece version. This is my by far favourite rod for 9 and 10 wt. lines.

Now I am thinking to go for a lighter rod aswell for casting deceivers to schoolie Bass and smaller Bluefish, but I cannot decide which 7 wt to go for, would it be a RPLXi 790-3 or maybe even a VPS 790-2 or would it be better to use at least a 8 wt. even on smaller fish.........

It will be used far less than the 9 wt. so I might even consider a less expensive rod.........

Advise is welcome, TIA Ger.

New line of Templefork Outfitters rods will be available in April. I cast a demo at the Marlboro show, it was a 4pc 7 wt. I have a lot of stuff but I must say I am becoming a big fan of these rods. Rod had the weight of a 6 and threw line like a 9 wt. Price will be less than $150 and will have a warrenty.

I have two extremes, which may or may not help.

I built a 2 piece 7-weight on a Loomis GLX blank last year for the same purpose you described. It's a great rod, but big $

On the less expensive side. Take a look at the new Wayfarer rods for Redington. A friend of mine just bought the 9 weight a loves it. Great rod for $200, 5 piece too.
