Has anyone had any experience flyfishing for bones or tarpon in Grand Cayman? Any input would be helpful... I am tentatively planning a trip there sometime Oct - Dec of 2002...

Been there many times but did not get chance to fish. "The Warf" restaurant feed tarpons at 9:00 p.m. The restaurant is on the waters edge and let me tell you those tarpon are not less than 40#. There must be someone who can guide you to the hot spots. By the way the restaurant is a MUST.

Check out this thread from a couple of years ago.

or just do a search on this site for grand cayman. I had great difficulty a few years ago finding a guide for inshore flats fisning, and finally found one at Charterboat Headquarters named Ronald. Unfortunately, they screwed up my reservation made a year in advance, and the guide was off-island when I visited, so it's hard for me to recommend anyone. I had a good time poking around the areas mentioned in my reply to the above-mentioned thread. Good luck, but remember what Lefty said a few years back about vacations- the more enjoyable the location for a spouse on vacation, generally the worse the fishing.

Just spent two weeks there over the holidays. Try wading the flats at Prospect Point, Breakers and South Sound on the last of the incoming or first of the outgoing. All tailing fish over very very heavy turtle grass. Even blind flies need good weedguards. Best luck on turd variations, 6's and 8's, rust and tan. Would have tried a urchin fly too in retrospect. Very spooky fish - we used 16-20 ft leaders on 7wts. Good size fish, honest 4-6lb average, but very wary. You'll see. Call Davin Ebanks at Bayside Watersports for guided trip.
