O.K. gang, it's time for a head count. I'll start

My name is Sam Riley and I'll be your Moderator on this forum. Although I have only been paddling for a few years, in that time I have covered a lot of water, caught some fish and have mess of stories to share with everyone. My yak is a Perception America from which I fish both fresh and salt for everything from Trout, Largemouth and Salmon to Stripers, Blues, Tunoids and Cod. Home base is Boston, MA but I paddle and fish most of the MA coast and have hit parts of ME, NH and RI too. I'm really looking forward to sharing in with each of you the best way to get skunked... while kayaking :)

Hi Sam,
I also am relatively new to kayak fishing. I've owned a canoe for years and fished fresh water only. Since buying my pungo,
I am hooked on salt water. I fish mostly around Bass River and Herring River. I did do well at Corporation Beach ,so, I hope to hit there more this year. Although I'm not a fly fisherman,I do use light tackle. I fish with a Penn 4300 and a 6 ft Fenwick rod. I love slug-gos and top water plugs.I'm attaching a picture of a 36lb striper I caught off Monomy last year. I'm not sure if the attachment is working, but, if not,it was a BIG fish.

See you on the water

Hello Everyone,

This will be my 2nd season with the yak. I use it mostly in the salt but sometimes do some largemouth fishing from it. The reason I got it is to regain access to some of my fav spots that get closed off to parking come Memorial Day. I use it more to shuttle myself to key locations then wade. I have a wilderness systems ride angler. I am buying a pungo to chase the tunoids in the colder months. If the Pungo is more comfortable I will be doing a lot more fishing from the yak.

I live in Newport Ri, And fish from a Loon 138. So far I've ccaught stripers, blues, shad and a gull from my Kayak. The Gull was an interesting excercise in catch and release. Bogas don't work on gulls. There are fish around but I haven't gone out yet. I usually wait for 50 degree water before I sart fishing. I'm can always use a fishing partner. Its more fun and safer. So if you want to fish around Newport drop me an email

Russ Clark.. Have been paddling for a couple of years now mostly on the cape with a few trips to Maine thrown in. Stripers just seem to go hand in hand with the yak thing. I use mostly Sluggo’s and a few live eels thrown in at night. Hopefully we could put a couple of trips together where those who want could meet for a day’s paddle and fishing. I have been known to make a good pot of espresso to help keep those arms pumping….

I'm in Tiverton, RI and fish from a 15' QCC fiberglass. This will be the second season out for stripers, blues and bonito. Last year, fished the Sakonnet from Nanaquacket to the point and both the southside of the Cape and the Bay from Eastham to Truro. The catch and release bird stories are probably the best(worst), followed closely by snag the buoy in a rip and try to look like you're fighting a fish....

I got a pungo for my birthday.I have never used a kayak but have had canoes.I am looking forward to hopefully getting some good advice from everyone out there on this forum.I plan on doing as much fishing as is humanly possible or my wife will allow, which ever comes first.;)

I'm Sandy

I've been yakin' for about seven years now in the Boston area and parts of Cape Cod. I use a Necky (sit-in) that I love. Nothing beats getting towed around by a big fish. All I can say is that it has been a long winter and I can't wait to get my yak down to Chatham and catch some fish!

A Yak Forum...all right! Excellent choice of Sam for moderator.

This will be my 7th season yak fishin' with my own boat. (It took my fishin' buddy 5 years to convince me to make the switch... I was a die hard canoeist).

My old Keowee will be spending time in the rafters this year, as I've upgraded to a roomier Pungo SuperLight.

I live in South County, RI and don't have a passport to leave. I am investigating getting one to visit some neighboring areas, though, and perhaps attend a yak fling.

I live in Nepwort, I kayak fish in a cobra fish n dive at night off of Brenton Reff, Prices Neck, Elephant Rock and the rocks at the mouth of the river. Anyone interested heading out when the fish show up out front? You'll need a skirted sit-in or a sit on top, if you have an open sit in you *will* get swamped.

Starting my second season with the yak. Had a couple years in the salt with a solo canoe but found too often I was still looking at them OUT THERE because it was too far/too windy/too stupid to go there. I only have a 6wt so I spin fish a lot in the yak.

When I discovered Reel-time in 2000, I was unaware of the popularity of kayak fishing among the Web site's participants and chose what I thought would be a singular moniker. Because I probably fish from the kayak less often than many of you -- I spend 75 percent of my fishing time in a 16-foot Lund outboard -- I am a little embarrassed to be Kayaker and really should be Lunder (or, perhaps, BLunderer). Anyway, I live in Gloucester and paddle and fish adjacent waters. My kayak is a 16-foot Prijon Seayak (spray skirt mandatory), not the most stable platform for fly-fishing, which is why, this season, I expect to use it more as a way of getting TO selected fishing spots than as a boat to fish FROM. Reel-timers who have questions about kayak put-in spots and parking on Cape Ann can e-mail me at D_Cohen@Globe.com.

Mi, I'm Kahuna, and I'm a fishaholic from Western Massachusetts. Most of my fishing has been wading or from a 19" Starcraft and a smaller boat. Split my time between trout, fw bass and stripers with a regular Spring Maine salmon trip thrown in. Most striper fishing has been in the Massachusetts portion of the CT River or the Merrimac and mouth. Baught a Cobra Fish & Dive this winter for the times that I am alone, don't want to take the boat, can't take the boat or can't get access with the boat. I think it it will be ideal for the family vacation at Saco Beach, ME, where the boat is just too much trouble, or the perennial camping trip to Cape Anne,
MA. Lots of experience canoing and moderate experience in other's yaks - have yet to get mine wet! Any tips on Saco Beach, Cape Anne, or the upper CT River are welcome.

I've been talking to many of you like brothers and you guys don't even know who the hell I am!
Coof here. (a derogatory term meaning "not born on the island of Nantucket" c.1790's)
Own a sign co. North of Boston and head for either Nahant(weekdays) or the Cape(weekends) where I have a summer camp @ Peter's Pond. I fish for EVERYTHING from eels to crayfish. I've been kayaking for 5 or so years now, love those sleigh rides! I guess I'm mostly a plugger, and a master at the Freshwater Sluggo. Novice at flyfishing. I let those skills wane many years back, I'll return to them soon.
Nothing better than surfcasting from the rough rocks in nasty weather when the Stripers are hugging tight to the cliffs!
I guess the kid who grew up at Old Silver Beach in N. Falmouth never left me.
I make plugs and seem to always be tinkering with the Yak.
Somehow, I think there's an undiscovered market in unusual/bizarre hull art, but I've made really weird business
decisions in the past. I've got new friends who are gearing up for Tuna runs...not enough time in the day!

YEah I never did that either.....I am just a kid now living in Boston adicted to fishing. I grew up in RHinebeck NY on the Hudson River fishing for Monster Stipers durring the herring runs. Befor elast year I fished for Trout and largmouth where a 2lb trout was huge. After coming to Boston, i.e. saltwater last summer, I thought the "Monster" stipers we used to catch are what people here call schoolies. I remmeber last year when I caught the first striper I had ever caught in salt water and thinking I had some kind of record over my friends because it was 25 lbs. I was used to Bass being 10lbs or less. Where I am from if you caught one over 25lbs you were in the paper the next day. Sad to know that here this fish was only barely a keeper. anyway, my Fly skills are just plain ugly. I don;t even pretend to say I can fly fish. I just never learned but now I am trying. Spinning tackle is my weapon of choice, but I use rediculously light line to make things interesting and expensive with all the lures and rigs I loose. I had a pungo but now I am looking or something new. And I have a quiet obbsession with trying to shark fish from a yak. My friends laugh at me so I don;t bring it up anymore, but this year I will do it.

Shaun......

You'll have the last laugh if you show this photo to your friends.

Lots of guys on the West Coast pull these Thresher's in (and on) to their yaks.

If you're fishing Boston harbor with bait, you'll be shark fishing. Plenty of the dogs around.

Coof, Sweet picture. I actually got the idea from West coast Threshers, I have heard they are popular there. There is also a group in Galveston TX that fishes regularly for anything with teeth from a yak Tigers, Lemons, and I have even heard of small whites being taken. I don;t really beleve that one but hey you never know. I hope to avoid the dogs...I equate them with stingrays...but who knows what a good chum slick will bring in... :p

It seems like most all of you are from New England. I'll be the oddball midwesterner. I don't have much kayak experience though on a recent trip to Brazil I was able to swamp one in a river, and find out just how difficult it is to maneuver, cast, and stay in any kind of position with strong current to contend with.

I do have 30-some years of canoeing experience and own a pristine piece of wilderness in N. Wisconsin on a wild river. I watch the kayakers glide by, and they seem to do it almost as easily against the (usually) mild current as with it. It sure looks like a fun way to spend time.

Do most of you flyfish right from a seated position in the kayak or do you use it as a vehicle to get to wading locations? I'd be interested to see which models would be suitable for casting and navigating my small river, and still be okay for flats in the Florida Keys if you have any recommendations.

I fish out of 11' 6" Seirra Neveda for the past two years. Mostly saltwater, but also some local stillwater. Stripers in the South Shore is where I fish most often, but also the Boston Area. I live in MetroWest Boston so have been trying some of the local stillwater, with limited success. I fish mostly with fly, but occasionally spin. Any of you local kayakers want to hook up for some local stillwater fishing let me know.

Hi, I'm Adrian and I just got into the Yak thing this year after thinking about it for the past two years. I have a WS Tarpon. Based in Fairfield CT, most of my fishing has been up on the cape in the Chatham area but I plan to spend more time on the CT coast this year. The Yak is primarily an access tool for me but I'll probably have a few casts if I find myself paddling through a blitz!

Hello Fellow Yakkers!

I'm "Keeper" on Reel-Time. Just got a Pungo a couple of weeks ago & it's going to be GREAT not being shore-bound again this year!! I haven't fished from the new 'yak yet as I wanted to get some time on the water first to get used to the new toy before trying to fish from it also. My impressions from the first couple of outings: These things are a BLAST!!! Very easy to load/launch, easier to paddle than a canoe and the Pungo feels very stable.
I thought it was pretty decent of "kayaker" to offer advice on parking & launch sites in the Cape Ann area. Anyone else who can offer more of the same would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck to all on the upcoming season!!!:)

Hi guys,

My name is Patrick and I live in West Roxbury, MA. I own a RIDE from Wilderness Systems (http://www.wildernesssystems.com/kayaks/boats/theride_a.html). It's a Sit On Top that I use for free-diving and will use this year for fishing. I mostly do fly-fishing but use a spinner from time to time. Being new in the area I don't know any other kayaker and hope to do some fishing with you guys in the next months. I will also need tips about locations.

Take care

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I fish and kayak in the Sandy hook/central NJ area. You may recognize me from the NJ reports as I run reel therapy flyfishing charters.
Flying around in a power boat all the time is great, but the tranquility/simplicity of paddling backwaters really lets me get back to nature.
This year, we are expanding our services to offer kayak eco tours in the central NJ starting in June. I am certain that fishing and or mother shipping will come into this at some point later in the season.
We will have a fleet of kayaks, including solo and tandem models and the ability to handle 12 people. We have 4 trip leaders to guide the tours.

"I fish mostly around Joppa Flats, ....., , and the Merrimac River"

I never had a chance to fish either Joppa or the Merrimack but plan to do so this year. I did some research during winter time and would like your advice on some of what I learned.

Joppa flat is a great great stripers and blues spot that can be very busy at time and dangerous due to heavy current. I did some scouting and found the boat ramp (water street ??) that would allow me to launch my yak, however there is almost no parking space. Clouser and deceiver work well in the area.

Do you have any other input?
Is the area dangerous if you wade or if you use a yak?
Anytime of the tide that is not worth fishing or that require special attention?
Can I park in the streets in the area?
What other part of the Merrimack (with an easy launch) are worth a try?
If I was to go upstream from Joppa would I found other fisheable areas?

Thanks for your help

Pax: Joppa is probably a good place for the yak. You can fish all around the flats, shore and an island there. I have only fished upriver as far as the iron bridge - but I woudl not recommend spending much time in the main river. There is a very nice launch at the State Park - I beilieve it is Salisbury State Park. Lots of use but there is a dirt launch area there also that nobody uses. It does cost to get in the park most of the season. It think it is $10. The cove where this launch is located and this side of the river upstream should be good for yaks also.

I've been 4 times at Cape Cod; Falmouth mostly. I'm very intrigued in kayak ff, and I think about west Falmouth harbor. Now I live in La Spezia (Italy) where I do a lot of bluewater ff for bluefin tuna & bullet tuna too whith some amberjacks & dorados mixed in. I think of a S.O.T. for gulf fishing or estuary fishing, but here it's difficult to find tools good for fishing. I'm looking around for something which could be a minimum compromise for ff. May be I can start something in this periode, but we have a nice shad run in these days so i'm focused on it. Bye Antonio.

I have been paddling in one form or another for most of my 40 + years of life. I started with a canoe as a kid in Minnesota fishing the lakes and streams. I have also spent 10 years white water paddling in the Carolinas. For the last 5 years I have been kayak fishing the Gulf coast of Florida. I primarily chase redfish, but seem to have more luck catching snook and trout.

Hi guys. I'm an avid kayak fisherman. I fish both fresh and saltwaters and really like hitting areas where neither boats or shorefisherman can reach. This past year I kayak fished from Cape Cod down to Florida. I've got at least a couple hundred days of yak fishing under my belt in the last 3 years. I love hitting new areas and species. I like the comradery too. Nothing beats catching fish from the yak with a bunch of buddies. I fish a variety of kayaks all of which are SOTs. I like and need their versatility. My preferred yak at the moment for the salt is a Tarpon 160 however I'm working on a project that will produce a new ride for me come springtime. I fish a variety of methods too. I like to catch fish and use the best tool for the job most of the time. I do prefer to use a fly rod but catching fish is more important.

Won a WS Ride at the Texas Flyfisher annual auction back in February. The only water that has hit it so far has been rain water. With work and bad weather combined with buying a house for my wife (we were in the old one for 13 years) and getting moved in, my time for a cruise has been non existant. Come H or High Water, I will be through this weekend and then, look out! The ride fits perfect in my travel trailer and we have reservations at Galveston SP for Memorial Day and Inks Lake SP over the 4th of July. Hopefully you will find me on the Lighthouse Lakes area around Port Aransas. Tight Loops to all and have a safe weekend! AC

I live in Maryland, near the Chesapeake, but I am fond of the Westport, Ma area and paddle there at least twice a year. I also had a Loon 138 but wanted a bit more speed and got a Nantucket. Anyway, I was in Westport 3 weeks ago (my brother lives in Norwood) and I was surprised that Allen's Pond inlet was closed up, I guess due to Isabel. Do you have any information about plans to open that back up? We paddle mostly between Goosberry Pt and Russells Mills, but was a little disappointed about the Pond. Thanks for your reply.

Which are the best for saltwater fishing. And if you pull up on a sandbar, is there some type of anchoring system you can use.
I have been procrastignating about a kayak for a couple of years now. Thanks, joev.

Welcome aboard Joe :)
Your anchor question is easy so I'll take that first. Yes, there are folks who have various anchor set-ups for their yaks. It could be as simple as a small collapsible grappling anchor on a length of cloths line to the eight pound hook I have with four feet of chain and 100' of rope. Your choice should be made based on where you expect to drop the hook.

As for which yak is best, it really depends on the types of fishing you plan to do now and in the future.

Hi. My name is Andrew Kerlin. I live in Grovetown Georgia, Which is near Augusta. I am new to this forum. I have been looking at several forums trying to learn more about kayaking, kayakfishing and Fly Fishing. I have been kayaking for less than a year. I currently have a Tarpon 100 and I am in the process of purchasing a Malibu eXtreme. I use the T100 for smaller waters around my area. I am going to use the eXtreme for more open fresh/salt water. I got back into fly fishing this year also, which has been a blast. I have a 6 weight rod and just purchased a new 8 weight rod. I will probably be asking alot of questions about kayaking, rigging, and fly fishing of course. :)

Ok dudes... I'm the guy from Delaware. We have some nice fishing here - just not a ton of it. But we do have a lot of salt/brackish inland bays as well as access to the Atlantic; plus the Chesapeake is pretty close. Anyhow, I fish from the surf now - either with my Jeep or without. I was looking at getting a canoe, but I decided to get opinion from you yak-heads. Do you have advice for someone getting started? Here are the Q's...

What size yak should I look for that best accomodates bays/ocean paddling?

What brands do you guys like? What about purchasing online?

What I'd really like to do is fish with a smaller rig from a kayak. I enjoy the big fishing from the shore - but there's always a spot to far to cast (or too deep to wade). Plus I think I'd enjoy the day trips along the coast or looking for crazy turtles and snakes in our inland bays. Saltwater fly fishing seems like a great idea - I haven't cast a fly in years, but I used to tie some and tying for salt sounds pretty cool. Unless you guys have an aerator on your rigs...

Thanks for the nice site and good luck this season. The sun is coming out here and I think the tide comes in around midnite - hmmmm. Good friday indeed. DH

You'll get lots of opinions about kayaks, everyone has a preference. I have a Wilderness System Ride. It's a little over 14 foot long and very stable. Ocean Kayak has a similar boat called the Drifter. WS makes the Tarpon series and Ocean Kayak the Prowler which are narrower and faster. All of theseare sit on top kayaks. I know a lot of the New England guys prefer SIT (sit inside) kayaks.

You'll get to more fish with a kayak, you can troll from spot to spot. And when you hook up you're off for a sleigh ride. Simply put, kayaks and fishing are great a marriage and lots of fun.

Hi Ya'll,
I'm located in Mobile, Alabama, which gives me access to Mobile Bay, The Gulf, and a HUGE amount of back-bay estuary fishing. My wife and I (yes, she fishes and dam good at it) are purchasing Ocean Kayaks Drifters. I prefer to take a 4 wt, a 6 wt and a 10 wt when I go. She uses spincasting gear, but I'm trying to convert her. Any and all advice on setting up the Drifter for flycasting would be greatly appreciated. At this point, I'm feeling like I'm going to be starting all over again at the bottom of the learning curve. I wanted to go with the yak because I've seen too many fish that are too far to wade, and in too skinny water for any other kind of boat that I'm familiar with (including jon boats). We'll probably end up doing some fishing in the Gulf, most likely around the drilling platforms. I've had success mostly with specs, reds, flounder and some really oddball fish like hardhead cats on the fly, and am really looking to expanding my accessability with the yak. Again, any and all advice on setting the thing up for flycasting will be most appreciated. Oh, I'm 50, full-time retired after 22 years in the military, and the first photo of me on a fishing trip I was sleeping in an apple crate. Learned flycasting from my granddad and dad, mostly for panfish and bass, during which I caught one heck of a lot of bushes, trees, and, several times, myself. I'm much better now, though.

My name is Shawn. I live in Western MA half a mile from the Connecticut River. Middle aged but don't act it. Economically challenged-I work with the disabled, and write fiction for kids-unfortunately I can't get anyone to buy it yet.

I have already raised three fantasic kids. They are off and running with their own lives, still have one at home. Hence the challenged part. So no boat for me, simple fishing-from the shore, Cortland Rod and Old Florida Reel and shooting heads. Camping and long drives the norm.

Been a loner to long and would like to fish with others. Looking for safer, saner and more enjoyable fishing--could use some more friends.

Bluefish tow me around all day. Now I'm thinking about taking it in the harbor and maybe the Backshore!! (#$119) I'm already thinking about an upgrade.I enjoy reel-time very much and look forward to a great summer on the fly.

New to Reel-time but not posting. I live in Gloucester Ma. and fish 99% in the salt. Have a WS T120 angler, and head out 3-4 times a week. Spring time schoolies I fly cast to, once the cows come in I troll T&W all over the north shore.

Noel Anderson here

I am blessed with a job involving travel, so I try to bring the boat with throughout New England and Long Island. I'm back into yak fishing, and went from SINK to SOT with this latest iteration - used to live in Newburyport, and now am MetroWest Boston.

I started as a bait guy in Harpswell ME, went to salt fly 10 yrs ago, and earned trout bum status when our company brought on a client in Vermont (and I had to spend a week or so up there). Now, I'm after whatever I can catch - fresh or salt, river, estuary, bay, or lake.

Always looking for company. Makes the wife happier, knowing that someone can GPS the location and pick me up and out.

Ocean Kayak drifter, and Dolphin Necky.

Hey guys
I'm enjoying my first season in the seacoast NH area having just moved here last fall from MA. Was shorebound or on dino burners up until this year too - just got my first yak in July. So it has been a learning year so far, learning the area (Piscatua/GB) and learning how to cast a fly while sitting down :)

Have been too dam busy to fish much this year but I HOPE that will change for the fall - just went out this AM off Ft. Foster and the bunker were in, the blitz is on!

Anyone wants to get together, let me know. I get out once a week on average. Use flies, lures, bait (T&W)... whatever works. Have a Tarpon 140, orange... so if you see me out there say wassup

Just found this forum. My name is Chrystal Murray and I am a paddle fishing guide in the Tampa Bay area, Florida. Also work as an editor for Onshore - Offshore Magazine.

I fish from an Old Town "Pack" which is a 12' solo canoe. Also have an Old Town "Cayuga 149" and Ocean Kayak "Prowler 13". All three are great boats; suitable for different conditions.

Am happy to answer questions with regards to visitors paddle fishing in my area.

Never saw this thread before today....

I'm Mark, and I just finished up with my first yak season. I have a Tarpon 140 and love it for the stability and freedom to access so many more fishing areas. I live in central CT, but fish everywhere form southwestern CT to midcoast ME depending on the time of year and which family member I'm visiting.

I can't wait to get after it again next season. :brow

Hi all,
Been doing the saltwater fly fishing thing for about 6 years or so.
Primarily with my good friend, and charter operator Capt' Rene out of Newport, RI. In 2005 did a bit of Hampton to Plum Island shoreline fishing with the long wand as well. 2006 is going to quite different and exciting. Purchased a 20' CC. and found an affordable marina on the Merrimack to keep it at. O-kay the drawback to affordability is location. I've been told that with the no wake deal I'm 40 min. +/- to the jetties. So... I'll be doing a lot of looking for action on the way out.
I can chase the birds around as good as the next guy, and ID the funny water. However I could use some confirmation from some board members that a good day flyfishing can be had without going outside the jetties.
Give a shout out to the "Hoi Polloi" this season if you see them blitzin' on the river :)
Best Regards
BillyD

Hey all,
started fishing for stripers 3 years ago and haven't stopped since. Some guys from work got me out to RI and then the cape and ever since the wife hates me....though I was on the cape for our wedding aniversary (#$119) well anyway got a kayak last year and had phenominal success down the cape. Trolling or casting in the dead of night is pretty damn exilarating. Any way hope to see ya all on the water.

New to kayak fishing... recently picked up a Malibu kayak Mini-x. But since the wife likes it as much as me I'm in the process of ordering a Malibu kayak x-factor for myself. Would love to hook up with others into kayak fishing to help me get everything rigged up and head out on the water with others.

Hello,

Sergio from Long Island, NY.

I've owned a tribal yak since 2001 and been using it to fly fish in salt from Moriches through Orient Point.

First year owning the coolest flats boat ever, which has allowed me to sight fish LI's water for stripers without the workout and dangers of paddleling to the flats (tons of boats out here).

Email me anytime for questions!

My name is Joe and I purchased my first kayak this spring. I fish mostly around Cape Cod and Southern Maine coast. I've been paddling (canoes) my whole life but this is new because my kayak is the pedal type made by Hobie. I've been in my Revolution the past two weekends so far and absolutely love it. I'd love to meet up with other yakers, especially at night to try and learn the ropes...safely. I hear of folks using them in Boston Harbor which would be great to learn as well as it would cut off an hour os so off the drive home to Vermont on Sunday nights.

Hi all. About to purchase a fly rod and flys to fish off Pleasure Beach, New London, CT on my SOT kayak. No previous fishing experience other than two separate days of freshwater flyfishing with a friend. Basically, I have an idea of how to cast and I enjoy being out on the kayak. Any tips and/or advice welcome.

Hi Sam - I live near Baltimore and paddle my Big Kahuna and Old Town Nantucket on or near the Chesapeake Bay, but I travel to the Westport River area in early September to go after the big fish at the mouth of the Slocum River. Am looking forward to getting up that way again, soon! I get skunked regularly in local waters but always manage to wear myself out wrestling with albies and stripers in Mass!

Hey,

My name is Rich and although I'm not new to this site, I am very new to the world of kayaking and the kayak forums. My three trips included a freshwater 'shakedown' trip which included no fishing, then two 'tame' Buttermilk Bay trips to which I all I did was troll around a tube and 'fake' Berkely Gulp Sandworm to catch a handful of stripers, 2 fluke and 1 bluefish between the two outings.

As the fall rolls around, I'll want to gain a better confort level/control of using methods I'm used to using while shorefishing. However, I briefly tried flyfishing on both Buttermilk trips and on both occasions, got a clouser stuck to my leg (luckily not past the barb) as I'm trying to gain my sense of how and where to cast (especially when blind casting) ...I almost considering bringing something to cover my legs and prevent a worse hooking to occur in the future. Meanwhile, I'll just keep plugging away.

Anyway, that's my intro,

Thanks for letting me in the club;)

Rich

Greetings fron VT's NE Kingdom,
New to the site. Lifelong fisher, fly fishing exclusively (though not particularly effectively) for 20 years+/-. Started fishing saltwater @ 5 years ago and fell hard. Bought a Hobie Outback this summer and I've managed @ 8 or so outings along S. Maine coast and Piscat R. with modest success, thanks largely to info gleaned from this and other forums.
Significant other lives in Berwick, ME. I'm presently recovering from shoulder surgery so I have parked the kayak and hope to haul my boat down to catch a bit of the fall run.
Thanks to all who generously share tips/reports!

It looks like they are trying to make sentences out of search terms to get someone to this thread they will probably add some kind of ad in later but I will report it and one of the mods will delete it. For some reason this thread is always the target.

Live in MI, know some of you RTer's from my annual trips out to RI. Didn't make it last year due to some personnel changes in my household but I am up and running again and will be introducing my new wife to the salt this October, hopefully?

Picked up a Heritage Redfish Angler 12 SOT on clearance last week and will be working on it this winter to get out and fish for trout, salmon, walleye, and pike this spring.

I've been fishing SW FL (Fort Myers area) for a couple of years, from an Old Town 16' Predator (yes, that's technically refered to as a canoe) - sometimes with a MinnKota 55 trolling motor on it. I've kayak'ed recreationally and, while I enjoy it, I can't figure out where to put my cooler, my tackle boxes, my rod-holder bucket, my boat bag, and my lunch (not to mention my beverages...).

I hope you won't mind me poking around in here from time to time, since I can learn a lot from folks who are fishing the same kind of water in much the same way - even if they do have funny looking paddles...
