You should call Capt. Omar Orraca...I've never fished with him, but I know people who have. He fishes tarpon in backcountry lagoons, bonefish off Culebra Is. and offshore as well. I think the number is 787-783-9640...he's on the web.
Good luck!

I've fished with Omar before. I fished with him for a half day two years ago. He took us out to a lagoon right near the big bridge that goes across the major lagoon near San Juan. He used the flyrod and made me use the spinning tackle. There were more tarpon that I've ever seen rolling in that lagoon. We hook 6-7 in half a day. Unfortunately, we got none in the boat. He didn't catch any on the flyrod. I will say that he was kind of an ass and cussed alot. We may have just caught him on a bad day.

I'd skip Omar and contact Marcos Hanke:Marcos Hanke - Light Tackle Paradise (http://www.worldwidefishing.com/puertorico/b1579/index.html)
He's a Marine Biologist (as well as great guy) who had flyfished most of the Island before most of these guys started catering to our sport..

Just wanted to clear up a few things hopefully....
I lived on the Lagoon in Puerto Rico for 4 years and learned to fish for Tarpon from Capt. Omar. He taught me everything from throwing my cast-net to boating HUGE tarpon. He's a nice guy who willingly shares his knowledge. He has been a Tarpon guide in San Juan longer than any other person in the area. Let me offer this advice when booking a trip with a P.R. guide, be sure that you talk to the guide and be specific about what type of fishing you want to do, spin, bait, fly, whatever, these guides take you out to catch fish using what method they feel best for the day. If you can't cast a fly, ask for a lesson, you'll have positive results! Just let him know what your expecting of the trip. Somedays you can walk on the tarpon in the lagoons in P.R. but for some reason they won't bite , other days you get one on every cast. As Capt. Omar told me...."That's Tarpon fishing!". There are only two guides I'd fish with, 1. Capt. Omar and 2. Capt Till (who is new to guiding but has fished around the WORLD, writes for fishing publcations, etc. and can catch fish on the toughest days in the lagoon!).
Omar is at: www.fishinginpuertorico.com
Till is at: www.quicksilverfishing.com
Good luck and enjoy the island.
any questions email me at: flechero@yahoo.com
I'd be glad to help in any way I can!
