With the warm weather this week and Stripers already on the move, I'm sure that many of you will start dusting off your paddles and prepping your gear for the first fly-yaking trip of the season. Last night, while getting things ready for my first 2002 Striper hunt, I dug out two books that were invaluable to me last year and I thought you might be interested in them as well :)

The first, Sea Kayaking Coastal Massachusetts, is filled with put-ins and paddling trips of various levels of difficulty, from Cape Ann through Cape Cod. There are many books of this type out there and this one is right up there with some of the best. For those just getting into kayaking or looking to explore new parts of Massachusetts, this book will help you to get started and keep you busy for some time.

The second book, The Complete Book of Sea Kayaking, is by Derek Hutchinson. If you don't know Derek and you are interested in sea kayaking, you haven't been doing your homework. Everything you would want to know about kayak and paddle design, paddling strokes, dealing with rough water and self rescue techniques is covered in this book.

I hope this is of some use.

Thanks Sam! I appreciate the info. My son went to the paddle sports thing in NH a couple of weeks ago and was most impressed with author of the second book you mentioned. He and I are both interested in yaking the Cape Ann/Plum Island area this summer.

I'm buying both books for him because he is a good boy and because he bought me a PUNGO! He won't mind me borrowing them one at a time.

"May the sea rise up to greet you and the wind be always at your back. And may you find yourself in Heaven, a half hour before the devil knows yer dead!"

Do you think the rest of the world has realised yet, "The Irish" have have won just about everything that really means anything?

And Irish-Americans are leading the way, begorra!
