Just a few thoughts-

1) Ross Reels- I have 2 (not the san miguel though) and love them great reel for the money

2) Do you really need a disc drag reel with a 2 weight rod? Disc drag adds weight, and isn't the primary benefit of a 2 weight is to be as light as possible?

Hey Catch22,

Sorry for the slow reply. I am not the fly fishing expert here, so I had to get the answer from TackleTour's fly fishing expert.

Here's his reply:

Dear Reader,

Thank you very much for your response to the article regarding
Ross's San Miguel 2 weight Reel. I must agree that the primary advantage
to using a 2 wiehgt rod and reel combo is to maximze performance by minimizeing
weight. Using a reel that has a disc or cork drag will add a little wieght,
but give you a big advantage if you accidentally hook into a 12-16" fish
that your weren't expecting in a small stream. Here are a few 2 weight
reels with their weight specifications:

Ross San Miguel 3.9 Oz.
Bauer MXP1 3.9 Oz
Sage RS 3100 2.75 Oz
Ryall= 4.3 Oz

The Sage Reel does not have a disc drag, and therfore is a little lighter,
however this comes at the comprimise of using a reel with no drag whatsoever.
I agree with your response that the lightest reels on the market will not
have a disc drag, however if you are searching for an all around light reel
that has an excellent drag system, the Bauer and Ross reels make excellent
products that will fit.
