If you are unfamiliar with the structure of Chatham Monomoy these pictures will give you a better feel.
When the tide is high it's big water, when it's low it's easier to fish and fish are more concentrated.
Note where water enters from the southeast and channels through large adjacent flats. Fish can use the channels and come up on the flat while being able to quickly find safety in deeper water. There are also purges to western side. You also have an opening coming from stage harbor and adjacent to hardings beach. Finally The sight fishing book advertised on this site gives a good explanation of general dynamics.
There are also areas with more water movement and conversely back bay with diminished water flow and more nursery areas for small forage.
Pictures come from Mapquest Aerial photos. Type in nearby local and recenter and zoom.
I'll add close ups in a couple subsequent posts

Sagebrush, those are some great shots of Monomoy, I have never been, but am doing my damndest to get a chance out there this summer. Fished a good deal out of Osterville area, but the stories I read here and everywhere about Monomoy make it seem a very special place. I don't even know where to begin out there, but those pics are a great view of the whole area. Thanks.

There was some much deserved attention for the use of photos in the recent On The Water. I get photos from Mapquest all the time. You can usuallyl get a great deal of info and planning done ahead of time by scouting photos of areas you have never been. Mapquest has great photos and the ability to zoom and move. Since I am new here it has been a great resource. You can spend less time looking for places to fish/access points and more time on the water fishing.

I round that point in the pre-dawn dark on the way to the tuna grounds in the fall. I'm familiar with the charts, but it's nice to see it "in person". Great shot. Sometimes it's pretty heavy on the outside, depending upon tide and wind. Par for the course in your area. Even 35 miles off, Rose and Crown, or Fisher's rip (to the south east), the bottom comes up to 13 ft before it drops to 350 into the shipping lanes. Man it can get snotty out there when the wind and tides get working. Howie

Those pics are awesome! Can anybody tell me which is the part called South Beach? I've been to it, but I couldn't tell it from the pictures.

I have been smacked in the face by that rip SE of Nantucket. My first trip out there (fall '99), we had a decent ride plowing through a small chop at 3am and all of a sudden we get whacked by 7' walls of water. I made sure to put a little gps "goodie marker" on those things when we were heading back.

when you go there...put in an address just like you would with driving directions and it will take you to a map. Just above the maps towards the left side of the image there are tabs for map and aerial photo. Click on Photo and it will come iup just like a map. You can zoom either on the map or on the photo.....some photos are not available all the time....

Under find us map type in city, state
Once you get the street map
click on the aerial photo tab next to it.
You can recenter and zoom from there.
Oh and thanks for the responses. Also you can buy better resolution pictures of these spots or your house if you like. There is a link somewhere. Probably not cheap but it would look good in your sports room.
I also would say don't use them for navigation unless you verified their recent.
Haven't fished the area for two years but remarkably the pictures shows it much as I remembered it?
