got out in G'wich Bay last evening in the yak and trolled my new "favoritest" lure... the 3" jointed Rebel. it paid off bigtime (and I never ended up using the flyrod).

in 90 minutes time, I boated 4 weaks who apparently were suckers for this lure. also picked up a schoolie. a couple flyrodders worked water nearby but appeared to only take schoolies.

needless to say, I was amazed to take more squet in one outing than in my entire prior lifetime! now the challenge is to replicate the results with a fly... but what pattern? I'm inclined to rely on an estaz marabou pattern rather than a clouser or flatwing. I was hoping for a blue to complete an early slam but they must've been elsewhere.

I'm having a hard time staying focused at work today... :D

Way to go! I have never seen, let alone caught a Squeateague. Now I am very jealous.

Anyone ever land one around Cotuit or anywhere else in central Nantucket Sound? Any rhyme or reason to targeting them? I've heard of them being taken in lower Vineyard Sound and around Falmouth in Buzzard's, but not around Cotuit-Osterville.

Dave: we've been discussing how they don't seem to be "targetable"... that they are almost bycatch (dirty word) in our efforts for stripers and blues. last nite was the first multiple squet outing for me and I finally got the feeling that the next fish was just as likely to be a squet as anything else. you can perhaps imagine why I was reluctant to switch over to the flyrod when I had finally found something that they liked. I'll post the results as we try to repeat the success with the flyrod.

down here in CT they have been fishing for the weaks for about a week now.(and my weak back about a week back) I do not fly fish the salt water yet. Most of the people who spin fish for the weaks use a spoon or small bucktails with a small plastic grub.

I've heard they target weaks in Joisey with bubble gum sluggo's. Be worth a shot with some Pink/white clousers?
