HI GUYS,
THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP POST TO MY PREVIOUS REGARDING "COMBINATION UNITS". I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE PARTICULAR UNITS. THEY ARE COMBINATION GPS/CHARTPLOTTER/AND SOUNDER, THEY ALLOW A SPLIT SCREEN OR FULL SCREEN VIEWING OF EITHER PLOTTER OR COLOR SOUNDER. I'M EITHER GOING TO BUY ONE OF THESE UNITS AND SAVE APPROX. $1500.00 OR MAKE A MAJOR PLUNGE AND GET THE NORTHSTAR 951XDL AND A SEPARATE SOUNDER/FISH FINDER. ANY FURTHER FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
THANKS IN ADVANCE,
BILLY

No doubt about it, the Northstar is the best and 1st choice. Furuno is a top notch company along with Rasytheon. I personally feel that the 951XDL is the way to go if you can spare the bucks.
Good luck,
Elias

Late last year we took the plunge and bought the 951 xd. We paired it with a Sitex 6" color fish finder. It is hard to beat the accuracy(9 foot) and ease of use of the 951. It is an awsome machine.

the North Star is the only way to go. Its by far the best unit on the market today a 12 channel receiver and a 2 channel diff. receiver make it the best on the market. You have to be carefull of the furuno you can not see it in the sun

The Northstar is a fantastic system I agree. I used one on my father's sailboat all summer last year, and it is the easiest system I have used. I actually just bought the combo Furuno Gps Chartplotter/Sounder. I've heard about the sun issue, but to my understanding that only applies to looking up at the receiver. Another similar unit is the Simrad that just came out. It wasn't out when I purchased the Furuno, but I suppose it's best to see how it does after a season. From all I could gleam, the Furuno is a very solid system.
