I'm new to the area and striper fishing but recently learned a lot on Monomoy with those more experienced. (see Monomoy 6/23) I have a camp site reserved on one of the Harbor Islands in the next few weeks. Is it worth bringing the fly rod?

Definately bring the fly rod....I assume you mean Boston Harbor? If so, you might need to get up pretyy early to beat the wind. When the sun is up higher around 8-9am the wind will pick up and make fly fishing a pain in the rear, but early morning the water is calm and the wind is gone...usually. Then again if you are on an island that might mean you have a boat. In which case you would be missing out by not bringin gthe fly rod, especially if you can find some finning Blues some morning...
Check out Jack Gartside's book on fishing Boston Harbor. It has detailed tips on fishing all the islands in the harbor. Stoddard's in Downtown Crossing usually has a copy.
