Made the herring run rounds after some Cape trout fishing today...

There are now herring starting to show up at Wareham (Agawam River). I noticed a new sign that you must now obtain a town permit and present it to the herring warden before he will give you any herring. This, to my knowledge, is new and wasn't required last year. Anyone know how much a permit costs and whether it is available to non-residents?

In other news, bigger numbers of herring showing up below the Middleboro ladder. It opens for taking on 3-29 (town permit required).

Getting herring at this early date.

Do you have a big livewell set up ? or are you freezing them for later use?

Last time I used a live herring I did not need a permit.

No, Wareham uses a catching service (you can't net your own) and it won't be in operation for a few weeks yet, even though the herring are already showing. Last year they didn't require permits.
