I am debating whether to trade in my Yamaha 115 (1995) for a Suzuki 140 four stroke. I am not sure what my trade value would be on the 115 and what personal experiences have been with the Suzuki. I have done a lot of reading and the Suzuki 4 strokes seem to place first in thier class when compared to all the other big names. I have been on a boat with one and they are very quiet, powerful, small and light.
Anyone help with info, stories or advise would be greatly appreciated.

I had a suzuki 40hp 4-stroke and loved it. But I think I'd love any 4 stroke at that point.
My only thought is do you need that much of a jump in power?
115--->140 Maybe save a few $$
You could check nada for the value of your motor. Not that you would be given that much.

My boat, a Seastrike 19, is rated up to a 150. I woulnd'nt think of going that big, mainly due to weight issues, but the suzuki 140 is only 410 lbs...that's about the same weight as my 115. I live on LI sound, where a chop is usually all we get and regularly fish places like Westport, MA, Newburyport, The Race, Sakonnet Pt. etc...places where it's usually pretty flat. And I rarely go out when it's bad...what's the point?
So my thinking is this...Suzuki 140 over the Honda 130 (which looks and weighs like a pig) for performance and appreace. Plus there isn't a big difference in performance from a 115 to a 130. Almost not enough to justify a change. Get a few more out of the top end with a 140.
Four stroke over two for fuel effeciency (56 gallon tank) and emmissions. Also, ability to keep engine running while fishing rocks in numberous areas.
Is this necessary...no. My 115 is reliable and runs great. Just thinking of investing for my future and to do my part to keep the waters clean.

Ok you got me convinced on the 140.
Besides the fuel effieciency you will also have a much quieter engine which you will appreciate.

I would just stick with your current Yamaha 115. Sure the new Suzuki DF140 will be faster and maybe a bit more fuel efficient, but how will you ever recoup the $9000 purchase price?
The Yamaha 115 2 stroke is a pretty efficient motor already and should easily last 10-15 years. Unless you are experiencing problems now, I can't see the need for repowering.
If you are hell bent on repowering, however, also consider the 2003 Johnson 140 4 stroke which is just a rebadged Suzuki but priced less.
