Put in at the Great River launch just before false dawn on Saturday. I was the first one in the lot and the plan was to catch the last part of the drop out and take advantage of the reported light wind in the morning. Inside the mouth, there were some nice little rips and eddies forming and mini Bass rolling over on bait as it swept by. Sat the yak in a eddy and watched for a while... really was a beautiful sight. No wind, the sun was just peaking out and silver ribbons of bait flowing towards predators in wait. Tossed a #1 deceiver in and hooked up immediately, then stripped the little guy in. Eight inches at best and very lean. Officially the skunk was gone but barely and I had come for other targets... Hardtails.
Continued around the bend in the channel and was met by standing waves and brisk wind at the mouth. Apparently the 5mph winds forecast by Intellicast for the morning would not be, NOAA's 10-15 were closer. Once outside, I set out a swimming plug and headed with the wind and rising tide for the western bell of Succonnesset Shoal. Nice way to finish up the mornings coffee, drifting into the rising sun while watching for birds and bait. Arrived at the bell to find the rips setting up nicely and a half dozen Terns picking off bait. A few times I thought they were setting up into a nice pattern worth following but it never happened. Didn't look like anything was going to happen so I packed it in early and back to Waquoit. Highlight of the morning was seeing an Osprey diving for breakfast in the rip. There were fish out there but I didn't find them.
Has anyone picked up a Tunoid via yak yet this season?
