View Full Version : Blue Water Rod Holders
I just picked up my new boat and have to install rod holders. I ordered 4 of the BW holders, plus I plan to add 4 spinning/casting rod holders, for a total of eight. I plan to mount 4 on the side of the console (2 of each) and then 4 on the gunwale (sp.?)
Here is my question. Do I mount them with a wood or plastic base??? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ray G

I had BW make me a set of teak ones because my boat is full of teak - but on your boat I'd opt for plastic.

Yeah, I was thinking plastic. If I cant find what I want, I may just make some from oak or maple. I think a few coats of spar varnish, with some rubber washers between the wood and gel-coat will do the trick. That way if I have to replace/refinish it, or clean, it should be easy.
The BW holders sure are sweet, but they aren't cheap!!!

You can get some Starboard at West Marine or the like and mount the rod holder to that and then mount the Starboard to wherever you want. You can work Starboard just like wood. I just bought a piece and I am preparing to mount my 1 Fly Holder to it. My problem is my ineptness at doing anything that resembles woodworking. May have to seek help, then my $25 rod holders will wind up costing a lot more.
