I am wondering what type of knots to use for
1) Shock tippet to fly
2) Leader to shock tippet
I have straight 60# shock tippets but am really freaking out trying to knot them to my fly. Also having a problem connecting the leader to shock tippet.
I ordered some wire leaders with loop & clip connections but that won't wash with the Stripers
What gives
Thanks for your help:confused:
I use a no-slip loop for connecting the tippet to fly. I use 30 lb. flouro for everything unless I'm fishing skinny water for bass. I will also use 15 lb flouro if Albies a picky. Tippet to leader you can either use loop to loop (surgeon loops) or I like to use a blood knot. I don't use wire ever as 30 lb flouro will hold up to all but the biggest blues and I would rather lose a fly every now and then than have wire on when I see a big bass. If you use wire you need to use a haywire twist on the fly and an albright knot to the leader.
Good knot site...

For heavy shocker to fly, use a loop knot so the fly with swing naturally. I like the Kreh loop knot and the no-slip loop knot, which are very similar. Bill Nash has an outstanding knot book, which has all of them. Lefty also wrote a very good book on saltwater fly knots.
For leader to shocker, depends a little on the relative diameters...surgeons knot (not a surgeons loop) is an easy knot for lines of different diameters.
I bet there are good diagrams and explanations of all these online somewhere.
