The Venture hung one yesterday....600#s. Dropped it off, took on more ice, and went right back out...Howie

Congrats, Howie...You da man! I assume you brought out the 25 weight for that one. ;-)
In all seriousness, give us some details: what did it hit? Was it on a 130 or an 80? How long was the fight? etc.

were you there or was it just the boyz? Wonder what the going rate per pound is, or did you go consignment.. Is the herd in place up there?

Lost one on the 40 wieght, with a two foot long deciever tied as an albie imitation. Color actually doesn't matter, but distance is critical and casting this thing is a bitch. The reel is custom and loaded with 8,000 yards of 80# dacron backing. Hook pulled after a 14 hour fight. Then hooked a good sized humpback, must have gone 10 tons. Stripped me clean on the first run... Then I woke up...
Actually, the boyz gottem...Got the call this morning. They were on there way in to drop the fish at the buyer (consignment), and iced up and went straight back out...They raised the limit to two Giants per day, and I haven't heard from them since. They will not come back to the dock without their limit unless the weather is a problem...
Josh, all the fishing is done with 130s, no 80s. We run just the plainers off the 80s. We troll five 130s, three off the riggers, and two clipped to the plainers. The trolling baits are swimming split bill horse ballyhoos. That's the trolling deal.
At night, the fishing is done while drifting, with balloons and five to ten pound sinkers. The baits (herring, live bluefish or dead mackerel ) are set at staggered distances from the boat, some very deep, almost at the bottom (350 feet), and some mid depth at around 125 - 150 depending upon where we are marking them.
The first fish was taken on bait, while drifting. The troll bite has not really started yet...It should heat up in a week or so when more fish move in and get competitive. I am going up this weekend and staying for most of next week...I will be going back and forth throughout the season...The boyz are locating the fish right now, and should be right on the money when I get there...What a luxury having such a qualified crew.......Howie

Howie, email me your phone number up there for next week. martinatpw@msn.com We actually did hook a whale a couple years ago. It surfaced right on our squid rigs and hooked. We were able to cut the line quick enough to save most of it. But for a couple seconds we thought we were good to go, only to see the rig on the back of the whale behind us.. bummer. It does happen. hope to hook up next week. My buddy will be fishing probably starting on Wed. We leave out of Hyannis.

Two more over the last two days, one just shy of 450# and one just a bit over 500#. Both were around 94"s; one fat, one slim. Still lookin for that grander. Back out today, with the Federal limit bumped up to two fish per day. Could hang another two today. I'm meeting them tonight and be up there for the week, at least...........Howie

Sounds like a good xmas coming up for you?? Maybe a few new goodies for the boat? I lost your number when I deleted a thousand old emails....try again thanks. Keep it going. @ 2 per day will not last long at this rate... Sean.
Congrats on the catch. I don't know if I ever want to be tied to one of those, but I'd love to see one in the water!
Not to be a stick in the mud, but I believe the limit was 1 giant per day from Sep 15-20. It was two until the 14 and after the 20. I could be wrong, the categories are all screwy and I don't know what category the Venture is in.
What price do you get on consignment?
