Fished yesterday with AndyF and a buddy of his--also Andy. Was a tough day. There were some flurries in the morning on the south side between Turtle and Caswells...nothing to write home about, but enough to get a couple if you were in the right place at the right time...we only got one there. Nothing on the north side all morning; plus it was very sloppy on the n. side from the ENE wind. It was pretty dead everywhere around Montauk by about 11:30 and stayed that way for about an hour, so we decided to make the run to Gardiners as did Peter (AKA Tuna). There were fish on the NE side of Gardiners again (this time further off shore a little east of the Bostwick rip line. But they were spread out in smallish pods here and there and fairly boat shy. We got a couple, but it was tough going. They just never really grouped up into big tight boils of aggressive fish. Anyway, late in the afternoon--I think Peter had called it quits by then...or at least headed back to Montauk for a last look there--there were some strong bluefish boils right off Bostwick Pt. in the rip...a few albies in there too, but hard to avoid the blues. So we grabbed the "bluefish rods" and played with the blues a bit on topwater poppers. Then headed in. Definitely the slowest day I've had this fall, but at least we got some.
