I fished Montauk with a buddy last week from Monday-Friday, in a 20 ft center console. We had all the albies we wanted at Shag as long as the tide was moving well. I'd fish the incoming on an east wind to avoid wind against tide conditions. Last week we had a similar situatiuon and a ton of bait/fish got blow into the cove just SE of Shagwon Point. On a really tough day, it is worth a look in Fort Pond Bay as opposed to the longer run to Gardiners.
Have Fun!

Thank You!
I am bummed b/c I have had this weekend planned! Didn't want to get blown out on my only shot this fall!
If it is your only possible shot this fall, beware the curse of NOAA. It does look like the overall setup in weather patterns is for NOAA to be right about what Saturday will look like, but I remember countless times in the past I have NOAAed myself (decided not to fish and left the area because of the bad conditions NOAA predicted) and kicked myself upside my head when I heard reports of killer fishing in conditions less rough than NOAA forecasted.
I don't know what the exact tides will be, but Saturday morning should be incoming tide, and will (assuming NOAA has it right) be lower wind than in the afternoon, so Shagawon should have wind with tide and might well be fishable. For weeks now, when in doubt, go to Shag and you find fish.
Do be careful out there (last Thursday was a bit hairy in the morning) and go to the mouth of the inlet and look at what's out there before heading out, but beware the curse of NOAA. If the conditions are just a little better than forecast (like maybe only 15-20 knots all day) things won't be calm out there, but winds like that seem to whip the albies into surface feeds, so keep monitoring NOAA before you pass on the fishing. Heck, its only this summer NOAA has been forecasting this far out, maybe things will look better in the forecasts as the week progresses.
PS: But do be careful and honest with yourself about your boat's ability to handle the seas if you go out and look at the waters and wonder if they may be too much. I've got a 22 foot whaler that has been handling rough waters well, I doubt I would have gone out last Thursday morning in a 20 foot boat.
