Hi everyone.
I am looking for some help with info on the Farmington CT area. I am going there day after Thanksgiving for my son's hockey tournament and was wondering if it would be worthwhile to throw my waders and fly-rod in the car.
Is there a temporary non-resident license? Are there trout in the Farmington River? Other streams/rivers to fish?
Is the season even open at that time? (NJ resident here)
Should I just make the run south and fish for stripers?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Phil,
Try www.farmingtonriver.com Excellent site, honest information, fishing reports updated almost daily. This shop is located on the river on rt 44 not too far from Farmington
Also, www.classicandcustomflyshop.com Also on rt 44, also good service

Hey Phil- I would suggest you fish under the 219 bridge in Pleasant Valley. It is called Church Pool and is the equivilant of Cairns on the Beaverkill, but not at this time of year. Lots of fish and feed year round below the bridge. you can wade the whole stretch to just above the big slick pool (below the bench that is) water is usually temperate and the c and r section is open year round. try little black caddis, stonefly nyphs and bead-heads #14-18 park on the other side from the gas station and look for bank feeders. good luck

Phil,
Sorry, mctrout, but I would recommend fishing anywhere other than Church Pool! No question it is loaded with fish, but it's combat fishing at it's finest, and it will be crowded the day after Thanksgiving. Phil, if you don't mind crowds, go for it. But if you want to fish with less people around, let me know and I will send you some info on other areas to go.

Any and all help is appreciated.
I just want to be able to make the most of my time in the area. I intend to get my son out (he's 12) with the fly rod as well.
Thanks to everyone who has posted.:D

Hey guys, thanks so much for the info.
I visited the Flyshop and scoped out the area on Friday, then went fishing on Saturday.
On the Flyshop's rec I went up to 181 and took a right and then down a dirt road to park. Trout management area.
Beautiful river. I fished nymph and caught 2 browns, one 12" and one fat 16". Broke off another around 16".
All in about 2.5 hours. There were a bunch of guys out, but there was plenty of room to fish and everyone was very nice.
This little excursion was a real bonus on the trip, as my son had only one game on Saturday and I would have been hanging around the hotel if not for fishing.
Thanks again. Hope everyone had a nice holiday.:)
